How do I really measure a piece of clothing?
To ensure that a garment fits perfectly, you can measure it from the following steps:
-
Armpit-to-axis size (breast width):
Put the garment flat there and miss from one armpit to the other, directly under the arms. This is an important degree to ensure that the garment in the chest area is well. -
length:
Miss the total length of the garment from the highest shoulder point to the lower edge. So you see how long the top, dress or the coat will be on your body. -
Sleeve length:
For clothing with long sleeves: Miss from the shoulder point to the wrist. If it is a raglan cut (without a defined shoulder point), miss from the armpit to the wrist. -
Waist (for tailored clothes):
Put the piece of clothing flat backwards and miss the width in the narrowest point, mostly in the waist. This helps to know how tight or relaxed the garment in this area is. -
Hip length (with skirts, clothes and pants):
Miss the width at the width of the width of the garment, about the hip. So you can make sure that the article is not too tight in this area. -
Shoulder:
Put the garment flat there and miss from one shoulder seam to the other (with tops or jackets). This gives you a good indication of how the fit in the shoulder area is.
Tip:
It is best if you compare the dimensions with a similar piece of clothing that already suits you well. So you can better assess the fit. Compare the measured values with the size information in the shop to ensure that the new piece of clothing suits you perfectly.
